Future Energy Space

The room runs four simulations that share one interface but move across very different levels of complexity — from reading the energy profile of a single household device to explaining Germany's combined energy consumption since reunification. The same table serves a visitor who has never thought about energy management and one who works in it professionally.

Each simulation lets visitors change the parameters of a system and see how it behaves. Turn off sunshine and wind and watch the response; adjust settings and look for a more optimal balance. Understanding a complex system by manipulating it, rather than being told about it, is the core of the experience.

Visitors control the room with physical tokens placed on a 65-inch interactive table. A start token launches each simulation and sets its conditions — summer or winter, basic or advanced — and the simulation then builds up step by step, guiding the visitor through what to do next. A separate visualizer token controls the wall projection: depending on where it sits on the surface, it calls up the standard image, mirrors the touch surface, or brings up selected detail information.

The tokens are designed as a consistent family — laser-cut graphics, short German or English labels, and a colored outer ring that ties each token to its application. Discrete, color-coded loading positions on the table make it clear which token belongs where and where each simulation begins.

The wall projection is set into the architecture rather than dropped onto a wall: a WUXGA 16:10 surface framed by RGBW light above and below, with the surrounding wall lit to match the projected content. The interface, the token system and the projection were designed as one visual language — a recurring grid of crosses, derived from the UI, that reads as a surface to experiment on and aligns with Siemens' own graphic and color language.

From concept to visualization to on-site supervision, the whole space and its furnishings were designed for presentations and team workshops. A dark carpet with a bright inset defines the floor; curtains in Siemens Stone Dark carry the grid as a white silk-screen print; the same grid is cut in vinyl on the window panes. A workshop table in Corian Deep Titanium with brushed-steel elements sits alongside the interactive table. Lighting, paint and print did the rest, turning an ordinary office into a coherent, brand-consistent room.
